Why Complain
Not all complaints are sinful. God allows us to pour our hearts out before Him in fervent prayer. Jesus uttered the words "My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?' But there are Christians who complain in a sinful way. Like never being satisfied with their place our situation in life no matter what changes for the better take place.
Complaining can be a sin against goodness. What have we identified in history more than anything else? The goodness of God! From your infancy, youth, every year, everyday, and every moment, God’s goodness has been so richly bestowed upon us!
Complaining can be a sin against divine faithfulness and truth; The Bible says that 'no good thing will He withhold from those that walk upright with Him.' Then there is the rich declaration that 'All things work together for good to those who love God.' So many times to complain is nothing but the manifestation of the essence of unbelief and the essence of distrust.
The remedy for sinful complaining;
1. Look within yourselves. See your utter unworthiness. Be aware that you
deserve nothing. No right, no claim. All is of mercy.
2. Look abroad; You may be poor, but others are destitute, naked and starving. See that cripple who has never walked in years? See that bedridden one who has never breathed the open air for years? See that person in agony? I cannot look around without feeling the cause to exclaim; "bless the Lord O my soul and all that is within me!'
3. Look back; Sure many things have happened that annoyed and displeased you; but what showers of blessings, what loads of favors, what incalculable blessings! We ought to be asking; "what shall we render?'
4. Look onward; The voyage of life will soon be over. The wilderness will soon be crossed, and the journey will be ended!
5. Look above; Heaven is waiting. Heaven is offered at the end of our course. Look up at heaven and see the Father smiling, angels ministering, and the glory beaming. So will I complain now? No!
So let’s all cultivate a spirit of devout and constant praise. ‘I will bless the Lord at all times.'
It’s a privilege to serve you,
Pastor Lloyd
